Presentation of the Tunisian participation in the directors’ fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival

Program of "TUNISIA FACTORY 2018" Program of "TUNISIA FACTORY 2018"

The Tunisian cinema will be present at the opening of the 71st session of the directors fortnight which will be held under the Cannes Film Festival through a participation in two major events in this prestigious cinematographic event: the first participation will be during the opening of the Directors’ fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 with the projection of four films made by Tunisian filmmakers as a first experience of fiction with the participation of four foreign directors. The second participation will be through the projection, on May 13, 2018, of the feature film "Weldi" by the director Mohamed Attia in the Directors Fortnight section.

As part of the presentation of the Program "TUNISIA FACTORY 2018" a ceremony was held on Saturday, May 5 at the Tahar Cheriaa hall, in the City of Culture, during which the four films were projected in the presence of their producers Dorra Bouchoucha, Habib Attia, and Imed Zarrouk as well as Shiraz Laatiri director of the National Center of the Cinema and the Image CNCI in addition to the director Anissa Daoud and a large number of media representatives.

On this occasion, the producer Dorra Bouchoucha underlined that the Tunisian cinema is proud to initiate the directors’ fortnight in its 71st session on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 while recalling that the program "Tunisia Factory 2018" was started since the last session of Cannes festival with Dominique Wolinski director of this program. Dorra Bouchoucha said also that the choice was focused on the project of feature films by four Tunisian filmmakers who were facing the great challenge of completing in just five days the work of filming and editing their films with the participation of foreign directors who knew nothing about them nor about Tunisia.

The four films of the program "Tunisia Factory 2018" are: "The law of silence" of Mariem Ferjani, with the participation of the French director of Algerian origins Mahdi Hemnan, "Layeli Leila" of the director Ismail with the participation of the Iranian director Fatma Ahmadi, "Bluebird" by Rafik Omrani  with the participation of Sri Lankan director Suba Sivakumaran and "Take my Eye" by Anissa Daoud with the participation of Afghan director Aboozar Amini.

It should be recalled that these films will be projected in Tunisia on the same day of their projection for the first time in Cannes in several cinema halls in Tunis and other regions.

Before their projection in the Cannes Film Festival, the Solidary Group of Production Companies, the National Center of the Cinema and the Image and HAKKA Distribution are organizing a special projection of “Tunisia Factory 2018” productions on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Tahar Cheriâa hall in the presence of producers and directors of films.
