French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Iraqi city of Mosul; Where he visited the Church of Our Lady of the Hour, and met representatives of the Christian community, in addition to the site of the reconstruction of the Al-Nuri Mosque, which was destroyed by ISIS when it seized the city.
French President Emmanuel Macron also visited Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq; Where he met the President of the region, Nechirvan Barzani.
Barzani said that he discussed with Macron bilateral relations, the Iraqi elections, and other issues of common interest.
Macron had arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, where he participated the next day in the "Baghdad Summit for Cooperation and Partnership", and said that "we should not be slack in the face of terrorists." He stressed that the terrorist organization ISIS "remains a threat."
He added, "We are committed to partnering with Iraq in the fight against terrorism." Stressing that Paris supports Baghdad in rebuilding the areas liberated from ISIS.
He said: France encourages the Iraqi government in efforts to support the displaced, stressing that "the stability of Iraq is achieved through fair and transparent elections."
