"I agree with Governor Cuomo's decision to step down," the 62-year-old wrote on Twitter. "This is the right thing to do in the best interests of New Yorkers."
"Because I have served at all levels of government, and as the next nominee in the chain of command, I am ready to take over as the 57th Governor of New York State," she added.
And the Attorney General of New York, Leticia James, said that Governor Andrew Cuomo "sexually harassed several women", including employees, in the context of announcing the results of an independent investigation into the allegations against this powerful Democrat.
"An independent investigation has concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women in violation of federal and state law," James said during a press conference.
She added that the investigation also found that Cuomo "sexually harassed current and former female employees of the state of New York, by touching them in an unwelcome and non-consensual manner, and making comments of a sexually suggestive nature, which created a hostile work environment for women."
She pointed out that the investigation also concluded that Cuomo and his team took retaliatory measures against at least one former employee after she filed a complaint in this regard.
