Friedman stressed his belief that the United States should return to the position of a strong leader, describing the withdrawal from Afghanistan as a step back, showing the United States weak.
On the Palestinian issue, the ambassador said, "The Palestinian leadership has lost respect for the Palestinian people, whether because of the corruption of the Palestinian Authority or because of the extremism of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. He pointed out that the Palestinian Authority has disappointed the Palestinian people and that this people deserves better leadership."
On former US President Donald Trump's decision to consider the Golan Heights under Israeli sovereignty, the ambassador said: "The Golan Heights is vital and essential for Israel with regard to its security. I do not see any scenario in which that will change."
